The First Morning (limited edition paper print)

from €25.00

This print is a tribute to the late Philosopher, writer, and unique mind John Moriarty, who’s work I came across only in the last few years. I’ve been bringing his book Dreamtime with me when I go on artist retreat. His beautiful writings and ways of seeing the world have thought me so much and heavily influenced this body of work. I know I still have a lot to learn from Johns Writing. This particular story told by Martin Shaw really moved me and inspired the print, John is so connected to nature and has helped me connect too. He lives on in so many ways.

Towards the end of his life, riven with chemotherapy, John threw fistfuls of his hair out the window, hoping they would commingle with the sheep wool floating about in his neighbour Tim Connor’s field. A few months later that hair was the lining of a chaffinch’s next where she laid her eggs and reared her young.

Let us all have a nest with a lock or two of John’s hair in it. God knows what could grow from it.”

Martin Shaw -  A Hut At The Edge Of The Village

“ Isn’t It Time, after centuries of uncharted exile , we ourselves came home.

Isn’t it time …. we came home to Dreamtime Ireland”

John Moriarty, Dreamtime (1994)
