Title: The Little Deer
Collection: Scéalta Dár dTalún exhibition 2017 in Ballyhaise Agricultural College- Stories of the Ballyhaise land.
This picture is a beautifully hand embroidered textile print of jackie's original water colour and ink drawing. It is framed in a handmade oval frame made my a local woodworker. The print is limited to 10 editions only, however the hand embroidered detail ensures that every piece is unique in its own right. The following story comes on a scroll with the picture to add an extra layer of historical meaning.
"In the book Ballyhaise & Castletara Past & Present the townland of Eliteen is translated - From Eilit - Meaning Deer. Hence Eileen: The Little Deer
In the late Bridie Smith Brady’s Article “ O’Reilly’s Castle Of Drumholme ”published in the Anglo celt between the years 1922-1928 She describes the black bog of Eliteen: the townland next to Drumholme. She said that the O’Reilly’s had banned strangers from walking on to bog land of Eliteen incase they came across all the battle axes and war weapons they had buried in the bog holes! I wonder are they still buried here today?"
