The following unique story comes printed as part of the piece:

Emigrant: Antony O’Connor

Antony O’Connor was born in Glenamaddy, Co Galway.  Now aged 82 he moved to Wales at the age of 15, he now lives in London. Antony spoke about being born in a mother and baby home in Galway.  He lived there until the age of 11 and was raised by a lady named Margaret for the first 4 years of his life. He thinks Margaret may have been his birth mother but nobody ever told him for sure.  Between the age of 11 and 15 Seamus was moved to 3 different families, the memories of his early years in Ireland are traumatic for him, he had a particularly bad experience in the last place he was placed and so at the age of 15 he got the boat to North Wales to start a new life. He worked for afew years in a hotel where he meet his wife. He adjusted to the new life well.  Since then he has worked in a brickyard in England,  served in the army in Northern Ireland., worked in a bakery in Liverpool where this wife was from. Finally he moved to England 26 years ago and worked for the council until retirement. Antony and his wife have 4 children all in their 50’s now, his wife passed away in 2007. When I asked Antony what HOME mean’t to him he said “ for me home is who and where you come form. “
