In 2017, Jackie spent six months gathering research by walking the land and speaking to the knowledgeable locals of Ballyhaise. This locality is where she grew up and still lives today and so it was important to explore deep into its roots. The Exhibition itself launched in the beautiful Agricultural College in Ballyhaise in August 2017 as part of heritage week and creative Ireland. This was a huge success and it was wonderfully received by locals. Each print in the Scéalta Dàr dTalún exhibition tells a story of Ballyhaise land and the artwork is Jackie’s artistic interpretation of these stories, myths, and facts.

“As I walk through the Ballyhaise landscape regularly, I look, I listen, I wait. I know there are messages to be discovered from deep within the soil. I know we can’t know for sure what happened here before, my hope is to create a passageway for the viewer into the curiosities of the river Annalee, the one tree, the others trees, the harvests, the battles, along with the creatures and characters that might have previously walked this land.”

The following meaning comes printed as part of the product:

"The people of Ballyhaise are very proud of the fact that the famous historic hero Owen Roe O’Neill (1584- 1649) is believed to have settled with his army in his final year on the soils of Ballyhaise. In the late Bridie Smith Brady’s Article “ O’Reilly’s Castle Of Drumholme”published in the Anglo celt between the years 1922-1928 she talk about Owen Roes time staying with the O’Reilly’s in Drumholme Castle Many of the place names around Ballyhaise are associated with him. Historian Michael Swords informs me “ He stayed over in Ballyhaise and some of the fields to this day are named after this occupation. The Hospital Field is where the casualties were cared for. The Colonel’s Hill is where the high-ranking officers were billeted. Camp hill is where the main army was located. It is said in local folklore that he had an Oratory on Drumholme and that he addressed his troops for the last time at the “One Tree Cross” as he set out for Lough Oughter Castle on the banks of the Erne near Killyeen. Alas he died suddenly there in 1649. Some say he was poisoned, others state he died from gout. He is buried in the Franciscan Abbey in Cavan Town.”

In the late Bridie Smith Brady’s Article “ O’Reilly’s Castle Of Drumhome published in the Anglo Celt between the years 1922-1928 she talks about Owen Roe spending time in the Drumholme Castle, which is believed to have been on castle field. She describes how Owen Roe is said to have loved the seclusion of Drumholme Castle, Oakwood forest and the River Annalee.

There is a Giant Elm tree on Colonels hill that I’m drawn to, I sat under it this summer and read, I like to imagine Owen Roe Under it too."
