“Caught In A Loop”

“Caught In A Loop” is my first solo exhibition & is inspired by a trip I made to Japan earlier this year during the cherry blossom season. During my 3 week stay in Japan I based myself in Tokyo but traveled to Hakone, Hiroshima, Kyoto & Nara. This new body of work is based simply on my observations of modern Japanese Culture through the medium of photography, illustration, textiles & print.

The title “caught in a loop” represents this highly populated country that seems to be run so efficiently, everything is moving in order, the streets are busy but the energy is calm. The cherry blossoms appear in the city every year  amongst the nearly cartoon like streets of Harajuku, they come, they bloom, they leave again. The fashion is changing, the sense of tradition is strong, the people are respectful, the streets are clean & crime free, the gadgets are savvy. The loop continues………

All of the artworks from this collection are available to purchase as limited edition textile and paper prints over on my webshop. Click on each picture below to view the hand embroidered textile versions, to read the folklore story behind each piece & to purchase.
